The NDA administration took charge for a landmark third consecutive term as 72 ministers from the new coalition government, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took oath of office on Sunday.
Thirty of those who took oath on Sunday evening are Ministers of State, five of them are independent charge, and thirty are Cabinet Ministers. The distribution of portfolios will be revealed later.
For the first time since he was elected prime minister in 2014—following a massive “Brand Modi” victory—the 73-year-old Modi will lead a coalition government during his third term, or Modi 3.0.
The national capital is expected to reach a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius, according to the weather service as the swearing ceremony is taking place on the lawns of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to PM Modi. After PM Modi, Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah took their oaths. The fourth leader to take the oath of office was Nitin Gadkari. Nirmala Sitharaman, JP Nadda, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan came next.
The event was attended by leaders from the Indian Ocean region and neighboring countries, such as Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives, and President Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have six former chief ministers in his new government. Shivraj Sinh Chouhan, the three-time chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Manohar Lal Khattar, the former two-time chief minister of Haryana, Rajnath Singh, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and Sarbananda Sonowal, the former chief minister of Assam, are among his thirty-member cabinet.
