Throughout the country, arrests are being made. A law has been made on the issue,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi earlier today written a letter to PM Modi in Lok Sabha, urging for an immediate debate in Parliament to address the growing concerns over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

On personal conduct

Responding to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over his remarks pointing out BJP leaders like Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari are cordial with him unless the PM is around and said the Constitution has taught him to take the Leader of Opposition “seriously”, the Prime Minister took a jibe at Rahul, saying that the Constitution, and the democracy, has taught me to take the LoP with utmost seriousness.

In the Lok Sabha, Gandhi said earlier today, “This morning, Rajnath Singh greeted me well but it stops when PM Modi is around… (He becomes) serious, no smile,” the Raebareli MP said. “The same happens with (Nitin) Gadkariji”. He alleged that PM Modi has created an atmosphere of fear among people and his party members alike.

Agnipath

The Lok Sabha witnessed one such spirited exchange between Rahul Gandhi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over Agniveers. “One Agniveer lost his life in a landmine blast but he is not called a ‘martyr’. I call him a martyr but the government of India does not call him a martyr. PM Modi does not call him a martyr. He calls him an Agniveer. His family will not get a pension. They won’t get a compensation. He won’t be called a martyr. His people won’t get a pension. They won’t get compensation,” Gandhi said in Lok Sabha.

Outright lies are being spread regarding army recruitment so that the youth of my country do not join the army. I want to know through the House that for whom does the Congress want to weaken our armed forces, for whose benefit are the Congress members spreading so many lies regarding the armed forces? We are modernising our armed forces so that they can face any challenge and give a befitting reply. We are making reforms to make our troops battle-ready,” Prime Minister Modi said.

Mic being switched off

The Congress on Friday accused the Centre of silencing opposition leaders by allegedly switching off their microphones in Parliament.

Responding to the claim, speaker Om Birla said in the Lok Sabha that he does not switch off MPs’ microphones and has no such control. “The discussion should be on the President’s address. Other matters will not be recorded in the House,” Birla said.
