The Congress party office in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi was attacked and vandalised late on Sunday as unknown miscreants wrecked several cars parked outside the building, creating a ruckus and triggering protests from party leaders.

The grand old party claims that a few of its workers were “badly injured” during the attack. Meanwhile, the police registered a case against the unknown people and are currently probing the matter.

The attack comes just days after the suspense over the Congress candidate from Amethi came to an end after the party fielded KL Sharma from the constituency.

Congress blames BJP

In a post on X, Congress wrote, “Frustrated by the defeat they saw, BJP goons armed with sticks and rods reached outside the Congress office in Amethi and vandalised vehicles parked there. There has been a deadly attack on Congress workers and the people of Amethi. Many people are badly injured in this attack.”

The grand old party blamed the BJP and the party’s candidate from Amethi Smriti Irani for orchestrating the attack.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, “The police remained a silent spectator and the BJP workers continued with their hooliganism The wind has changed, breaking vehicles will not solve the problem, BJP people!”

Priyanka Gandhi’s rally in Amethi

The attack also came just hours before Priyanka Gandhi, who was expected to make her poll debut from either Amethi or Raebareli, is set to spearhead the Lok Sabha polls campaign from both constituencies.

According to PTI, Gandhi will stay in Amethi and Raebareli till the end of polls on June 1.
