The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recovered a huge amount of “unaccounted” cash during a series of raids across various locations in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi on Monday.

During the searches, the ED recovered a huge amount of cash from the domestic help of Sajiv Lal, private secretary (PS) to Jharkhand rural development minister and Congress MLA Alamgir Alam.

Video footage, which is now going viral on social media, showed wads of currency notes bundled and stashed in a room that is alleged to be of the household help of Sanjiv Lal.

A report by PTI quoted sources in the probe agency saying that the cash was being counted to ascertain the exact amount.

As per reports, a pen drive with alleged transaction details of some Jharkhand politicians was recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile, in a post on X, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey shared the video of bundles of cash in a room and wrote that more than Rs 30 crore have been recovered and counting continues.

JMM, Congress, RJD converting Jharkhand into ’lootkhand’

Another BJP MP from Jharkhand, Deepak Prakash said: “Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress and RJD are doing the work of converting Jharkhand into ’lootkhand’. Today again an amount of more than Rs 25 crore has been recovered, and it belongs to the ministers of the ruling party. The people of Jharkhand are feeling insulted today.”

ED raids in Jharkhand

The raids in Ranchi, conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), are related to the arrest of one Virendra Ram, the former chief engineer at the Jharkhand rural development department.

Virendra Ram was arrested by the ED in February 2023 in a money laundering case associated with alleged irregularities in the implementation of certain schemes.
