Pawar and Sule to set up clash in Baramati
Sunetra Pawar from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Supriya Sule representing the Sharad Pawar faction are slated to lodge their nomination papers for the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency on 18 April.
Initially, a joint plan was in place for Mahayuti candidates from Pune, Baramati, and Shirur to file their nomination forms together, preceded by a public rally. However, this arrangement was shelved due to logistical challenges, given the candidates’ disparate locations.
Sources indicate that Sharad Pawar may be present during Supriya Sule’s nomination filing.
According to NCP insiders, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, are expected to attend the public rally coinciding with Sunetra’s nomination submission.
A crucial UNSC meeting
On 2 April, the heads of the Arab Group at the UN (Saudi Arabia), Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (Mauritania), and the Non-Aligned Movement (Uganda) jointly addressed a letter to the Secretary-General, the President of the General Assembly, and the President of the Security Council, expressing their endorsement for the admission of the State of Palestine to UN membership.
The Security Council is anticipated to convene its quarterly meeting on “The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question” on 18 April, at the ministerial level. If there has been limited progress regarding the reconsideration of the State of Palestine’s application for UN membership, this issue might be discussed during or before this meeting.
