Voting for the last and seventh phases of the 18th Lok Sabha elections will commence at 7 a.m. on Saturday, bringing the greatest democratic exercise of voting 543 MPs to the 18th Lok Sabha to its completion. The destiny of 904 candidates will be decided by voters in 57 seats spread across eight states and union territories.
Punjab (all 13 seats), Uttar Pradesh (13 seats), West Bengal (9 seats), Bihar (8 seats), Himachal Pradesh (all 4 seats), Jharkhand (3 seats), Odisha (six seats), and Chandigarh Union Territory’s lone seat are among the states where voting is taking place in the seventh phase today, despite the soaring temperatures.
Today’s candidates include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP leaders Kangana Ranaut, Ravi Kishan, and Anurag Thakur, Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh, RJD leader Misa Bharti, and TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, to mention a few.
In addition to the Lok Sabha elections, Odisha is holding elections for 42 assembly seats. Votes will be tallied on June 4.
Over 10 crore electors, comprising 5.24 crore males, 4.82 crore women, and 3,574 third-gender voters, are eligible to vote in today’s phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
The Election Commission said that about 10.9 lakh polling officers had been deployed across 1.09 lakh voting stations.
