In a major development, the Mumbai Coastal Road Project was partially inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday (March 11). As of now, the south-bound corridor of the coastal road between Worli and Marine Drive would be made operational.

The high-speed corridor, built at a cost Rs 13,983 crore, is stretched 10.58 km. However, the length of the road opening in the first phase is 9.5 km.

Furthermore, commuters will also notice a significant reduction in their travel time. A commute between Worli and Marine Drive amid traffic conditions during the daytime usually takes around 35 to 40 minutes. But now with the newly constructed coastal road, it will be reduced to under 10 minutes.

Speed limits

Entry has been restricted for all types of heavy vehicles, trailers, mixers, tractors, and heavy goods vehicles, excluding BEST and ST buses, passengers-carrying vehicles, and all goods carrier vehicles.
All types of three-wheelers, two-wheelers, cycle and disabled persons’ motorcycles and scooters (including sidecars) have also been restricted entry. Animal-drawn carts, tangas and handcarts are also not permitted entry.

The vehicular traffic would be allowed between 6 am and 8 pm from Monday to Friday.

It is important to note that it is strictly prohibited to stop vehicles midway. Getting out of vehicles and clicking pictures or taking videos on the route is also not allowed.
