An army vehicle was attacked by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulmarg region on Thursday.

According to News18, sources in the police have confirmed the attack saying that a patrolling vehicle came under terrorist attack near the Nagin post area of Botapathr Gulmarg near the Line of Control (LoC).

Two army porters died and an equal number of soldiers were killed in the attack.

“A brief firefight took place between Indian Army and terrorists in general area Butapathri, Baramulla,” the Chinar Corps said in a statement.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed condolence over the deaths, saying, “Very unfortunate news about the attack on the army vehicles in the Boota Pathri area of North Kashmir which has resulted in some casualties & injuries. This recent spate of attacks in Kashmir is a matter of serious concern.”

The region has been witnessing a spate of terrorist attacks in the past few days where non-locals have lost their lives. Earlier today, a labourer from Uttar Pradesh was shot at and injured in the Ganderbal district.

The incident also comes hours after J&K’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi where he presented a Cabinet Resolution calling for the reinstatement of statehood in the region.

Earlier this week, a doctor and six labourers were killed when terrorists struck a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Ganderbal.

The unidentified terrorists carried out the attack when the labourers and other staff working on the tunnel project at Gund in Ganderbal had returned to their camp late in the evening, the officials said.

They said the terrorists – believed to be at least two – opened indiscriminate fire on the group of labourers that included both locals and non-locals.
