A Delhi Court on Wednesday extended Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody till July 3.
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court was hearing a bail plea filed by Kejriwal. During the hearing, the Enforcement Directorate made a number of allegations against the AAP leader and said that it had evidence that he demanded Rs 100 crore in kickbacks.
The probe agency also clarified that the bribe accusations were brought by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Kejriwal, who is currently in Tihar jail, was arrested by the ED in March over his alleged role in the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy case.
“The matter boils down to his role,” Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, who is representing the ED, said during the hearing. Kejriwal was present at the hearing via video conference.
“Various chargesheets have been filed and in none of them, he was made and accused. Despite several people having been arrested in the earlier stages, nothing was about him,” Kejriwal’s lawyer said.
Kejriwal was released from jail for 21 days on May 10 to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. On June 2, the chief minister surrendered and went back to prison. His judicial custody was supposed to end today.
Meanwhile, another plea filed by Kejriwal’s lawyer, seeking directions to allow his wife Sunita Kejriwal to attend his medical examinations via videoconferencing, will be heard on June 22 (Saturday).
