In a heartbreaking incident from Kerala, a 15-year-old boy tragically ended his life after enduring relentless bullying and ragging at school because of his skin colour.
On January 15, the boy, Mihir Ahammed, jumped from the 26th floor of his apartment building in Thrippunithura, Ernakulam, shortly after returning home from school. His mother, Rajna PM, took to social media to expose the unbearable torment her son had suffered. She shared heart-wrenching details, claiming that Mihir was “forced to lick toilet seats” and had his “head shoved into the toilet while it was flushed.”
In response to the tragic loss, the family has filed an FIR, and an investigation has been launched to uncover the details of the harrowing incident.
here’s what we know happened.
In the wake of her son’s tragic death, Rajna PM and her husband began piecing together the reasons behind Mihir’s heartbreaking decision. Through conversations with his friends, schoolmates, and reviewing social media messages, they uncovered the disturbing reality of the relentless abuse Mihir had endured.
“Mihir was subjected to brutal ragging, bullying, and physical assault by a gang of students at school and on the school bus,” she revealed.
She even shared chilling screenshots of conversations which read, “They made Mihir play a game where he spread his fingers out and instead of using a pencil to hit between the gaps of his fingers they made him use a knife. They also made him lick toilet seats and push his head into toilets and flush them.”
According to Rajna, her son was a happy and active child however, “these acts of cruelty broke him in ways we cannot fathom.” She said, “On that fateful day, Mihir returned home from school at 2:45 PM, and by 3:50 PM, my world came crashing down as he jumped from the 26th floor of our home in Choice Paradise, Thripunithara, Kochi, ending his life.”
According to her, the bullying was not limited to physical abuse. Mihir was reportedly targeted for his skin colour, and even after his death, his tormentors continued to mock him.
She shared screenshots of chat messages in which a person texts, “My sister just told me that Mihir killed himself. Check if he’s alive. No thanks.” Another responds with a laughing emoji, asking, “Where is this coming from?” They then add, “How did he kill himself? He’s not responding, by the way. F***, n****, he actually died.”
Following the incident, the family has submitted a detailed petition to the Chief Minister’s Office and the Director General of Police (DGP), along with the evidence they have gathered, urging for an immediate and impartial investigation.
An FIR has been registered at the Hill Palace Police Station in Thrippunithura, but Rajna expressed concerns that delays in securing digital evidence might allow the culprits to destroy crucial information.
She revealed that after Mihir’s death, his friends had created an Instagram page titled “Justice For Mihir.” However, she claimed that the page was later taken down after the school pressured students to “suppress the truth,” as reported by News18. Mihir was a student at Global Public School in Thiruvaniyoor, Ernakulam.
In addition, Rajna alleged that her son had previously faced harassment from the vice principal of GEMS Modern Academy in Kochi, the school he attended before.
“I am begging for justice for Mihir. His death must not go in vain. Those responsible for this barbaric act must face the full force of the law, and systemic changes must be made to ensure no other child suffers like Mihir did,” she wrote. “I have complete faith in the legal system and am confident that justice will prevail. I urge the public to support this fight for justice—not just for Mihir, but for every child who dreams of a safe and supportive environment to learn and grow.”
In response, the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has registered a suo motu case, with the Ernakulam District Child Welfare Council also intervening in the matter.
Following Rajna’s official complaint accusing the private school of attempting to cover up the incident, the institution released a statement dismissing the allegations as “false propaganda” being circulated on social media.
According to a local news outlet, the school asserted that it had strict measures in place to prevent ragging and harassment. The administration further stated that they would fully cooperate with the ongoing police investigation but maintained that no evidence had emerged linking any incidents at the school to Mihir’s death.
